We held our first Growing Together event in September and did a walk at local park with current clients, previous clients and even met some new faces. The result was amazing!
A big part of why we do what we do is so all women can feel like they have a village - a community of likeminded women going through similar experiences, challenges and joys.
While walking and chatting, it was so interesting hearing about how things are going during each of their pregnancy/ postpartum periods and how different yet similar we all are. There are so many normal anxieties and so much to learn going into these phases of life. Knowing that there are other women having similar experiences as you can really help to make you feel seen and not so alone.
It was amazing from a doula’s perspective to listen to these moms speak to each other and grow new friendships that are sometimes hard to find in your everyday life. The postpartum moms were able to share experiences with our expecting moms as well as hear about their anxieties for the next phase and validate those feelings and provide comfort knowing that everything will fall into place. Toward the end of the walk everyone exchanged socials/ phone numbers and that is exactly what we wanted! Some of the women even discovered they live in the same neighborhood and plan on meeting up outside of these events more frequently to walk, get coffee, etc.
We wanted to do something different at Suburban Family Doulas, something you may not see many doulas do and that’s make sure our mamas are finding their village and never feel alone. Our passion is rooted from our own experiences during pregnancy and new motherhood, and we are determined to provoke positive changes in the way women are supported during the perinatal period.
We plan to have these get togethers monthly and all are welcome! For more information on these events, please follow our Facebook page "Katie Marie Doula Services (Suburban Family Doulas."
